Cues

What are Cues?

Cues are automated messages or prompts that engage visitors on your site based on specific criteria. Common use cases include:

  • Prompting visitors with questions about pricing when they are on your pricing page to help increase conversions.
  • Sending a coupon code when a visitor is about to leave your site.
  • Engaging visitors who have spent time on a product page.
  • Notifying visitors about an upcoming sale, event, or site outage.

Cues work alongside your Shoutbox or Lightbox, or as a standalone embeddable using the base installation of reamaze.js. When used with a Shoutbox or Lightbox, Cues inherit the same theme color and attributes. To edit these configurations, use the Embeddable builder.

Create a Cue

Navigate to Settings > Cues and select New Cue.

Note: Re:amaze automatically creates three example Cues for you, which you can edit or remove as needed.

Select the brand you want the Cue to display for and make sure it matches the Shoutbox or Lightbox implementation on your site. Give your Cue an internal name for easy reference. This name is not visible to customers.

Compose the message you want to display to visitors. This can be anything from a discount announcement to a new product launch. If you need help writing your message, select Suggest Message to have Re:amaze's AI generate one for you. You can also set a start and end date and time for your Cue if needed.
You can give your Cue a duration, which is the amount of time in seconds the Cue will remain visible on a page. Enabling a duration makes the Cue transient by default, meaning it will only appear once per customer and will not display on other pages even if no action is taken.
Select the avatar you want to use for this Cue. This determines who appears to be delivering the message to your visitors. You can choose a generic brand avatar, a staff member, a team, or a custom avatar.

Further down the Cue builder, you can add buttons to your Cue. This is recommended if you want to direct customers to a specific URL such as their account page or shopping cart. Give each button a name and a destination URL. You can add multiple buttons and they will be stacked in the order they are created.

If you want to extend your Cue with a Custom Chatbot, you will need to add at least one action button set as a Quick Response type button.

Next, set up the rules and conditions for your Cue. A visitor must satisfy all conditions for the Cue to trigger and display. You can create multiple rules for a single Cue.

Finally, you can enable or disable the following advanced settings:

  • Transient: The Cue disappears when the customer navigates to a different page.
  • Bots enabled: Select this if the Cue has an associated Custom Chatbot.
  • Enable custom fields: Select this if your Shoutbox or Chatbox embeddable has custom field options.
  • Disable Cue select: Select this if you want customers to only interact with the Action Buttons and not be able to select the message itself to start a conversation.

Note: To create complex rules using custom JavaScript, you can use the Re:amaze Notifications API to append additional rules.

When you are done, select Save and Re:amaze will provide the JavaScript needed to paste into your site or store's HTML.

Implement your Cues

If you are not using a supported ecommerce platform like Shopify or BigCommerce, the preferred method for implementing Cues is through the Re:amaze Google Tag Manager integration.

If you prefer not to use Google Tag Manager, you will need to manually install the Re:amaze Shoutbox and Cues. Copy your Cue JavaScript code and paste it into your site's HTML theme or editor, next to your Shoutbox or Lightbox script. This should be placed between your <head> / </head> tags.

Once complete, save your work and refresh your site to test your Cue. Keep in mind that Cues will only display according to the rules you have assigned. If your Cue is set to appear on the ninth visit, it will not trigger until that condition is met.

Note: Each Cue created with the Cue Builder is displayed only once per customer until they clear their cookies. Advanced users should use the Notifications API to control time-based configurations and visit the Cues API for further reference.
